YMCA Salisbury in TST vs Holiday Inn Express, Causeway Bay?

Hi, just wanted some opinions to help me decide btwn these two hotels for a short weekend visit in February 2007.

YMCA Salisbury is offering Standard Room at HK865 (nett incl. taxes) whilst Holiday Inn Express Causeway Bay is offering rooms at HK895 (nett incl. taxes) so price is about the same.

So I would like to base a decision on the location, convenience of public transport? The plan is basically shopping %26amp; maybe a trip up to the Peak. We%26#39;d prefer not to have to walk around much with shopping bags so its important that the hotel is easy %26amp; fast to get to after a day%26#39;s shopping.

YMCA looks a little dated in their website photos whilst I heard the Express is brand new? In any case, cleanliness is very important to us so if anyone can shed light on this for both hotels, wld appreciate this v. much?

To the experts, please let me know which one you%26#39;d choose if you were in my shoes???

Thanks %26amp; looking very much fwd to HK!

Well I would say the Holiday Inn because I stayed there. For more info find my review on this website and see what you think. The hotel is not luxurious but very chic and comfortable. Clean, great shopping, walking distance to the Jardine Night Bazaat, Times Square, restaurants on doorstep, and MTR access directly opposite the hotel.

I%26#39;ve just come back from a weeks stay at the Holiday Inn Causeway Bay. Being on Hong Kong Island is so much better than Kowloon. You%26#39;re only 10 minute walk away from Happy Valley (a must), directly behind Times Sq and 2 minutes from MTR, trams and buses so fantastic location. The hotel%26#39;s clean, modern and good value although the complimentary breakfast stinks, but besides that I would definitely go back.

Dont know about the hotels themselves but for location, u cant fault it being in Causeway Bay especially if u r there for shopping and a trip to the Peak. There are also a ton of choices for good cheap local food and u can easily take a bus, MTR or eletric tram to most places. Dont miss a trip to Pacific Place (hong kong%26#39;s equivalent of Takashimaya) and Lan Kwai Fong area (hollywood road, etc)

Enjoy !

The western breakfast at H Inn Xpress wasn%26#39;t that bad! Toast, egg, small sausages, juice and coffee plus some bacon. Two other choices available. After returning I did actually suggest to the hotel that they should add a cereal choice with some fruit.

I%26#39;ve stayed at the YMCA Salisbury in Tsim Sha Tsui. (see review)

In terms of location, it%26#39;s a difficult choice but I slightly prefer TST over Causeway Bay. Both areas are extremely touristy but TST has great views of the HK harbour and has better transport links.

Causeway Bay has the Times Square shopping mall which is fine but it is no different to any other shopping mall. In fact, I noticed that you are from Singapore. It reminds me of Raffles Plaza. If you want some local flavour, it is only three stops from TST to Mong Kok where there are a variety of different shops.

TST is far better than Causeway Bay for transport.

1)There is the Star Ferry to get to HK Island which is fantastic.

2)The KCR connects to the MTR at TST which is handy. I would recommend you go to Kowloon Tong since there is a shopping mall called Festival Walk. Kowloon Tong is in an upmarket area.

The Peak is awkward to get to using public transport and I%26#39;ve usually walked from Central MTR. (15 minutes) www.thepeak.com.hk/full/en/images/map.jpg

Stayed at Express for the Western New Year and I would definitely go back there for these reasons:

1. VERY near MTR station

2. It%26#39;s a fairly new hotel so it%26#39;s still clean.

3. As with other HK hotels with small rooms, this also has small rooms BUT our room had 2 single beds PLUS a pull out sofa bed which was a double.

4. Their free breakfast (for up to 3 people/room) wasn%26#39;t anything to rave about, but it gets you going in the morning, no hassle of looking for where to eat.

5. GREAT customer service. People at the desk were really good with what they do. Housekeeping as well.

And for the record, the hotel was very accomodating and made my stay easy. I was travelling with 2 kids, a 9 yr old and a 1 yr old. They pushed my check out time til 4pm!
