How much money a day?

We%26#39;re wondering whether to visit friends out in China - Shanghai and Beijing for about 10 nts.

However we%26#39;re a bit strapped for cash but if we%26#39;re going all that way we obviously want to see the touristy bits of both destinations and eat at restaurants each day. We%26#39;ve worked out flight and hotel costs but wonder if anyone could suggest realistically how much we would need per day.

I know this is a bit of a mad question - but we need to realistically know how much to save.

If you%26#39;ve already worked out flight and hotel costs then you%26#39;re pretty much there, that%26#39;s most of your expenses.

Eating is quite cheap in Beijing and Shanghai. Expect to pay about 10US$ for a meal for two people in a mid range restaurant.

The other expenses will be travel costs and entry fees.

Public transport, if you decide to use it, is very cheap indeed - a few Yuan for a single trip. If you decided to go by taxi then it%26#39;s also not going to break the bank - the starting price is 11RMB in Beijing, and an extra 2Y per kilometre thereafter.

The entry fee for each sight can cost anything from 30-120RMB.

So. At a rough guess, you%26#39;re looking at 50US$ a day, more on the days you travel, less if you eat cheaply and don%26#39;t move around much

except flights and hotel, for the food,10$is enough for in mid restaurant, the public transportion is very cheap,to the great wall only need 12RMB per person by 919,in the downtown,5RMB for two is enough.but will kill you much time to find the right bus and on the way to sights.

Thank so much for the info. It just gives us a rough idea how much we need to save. Think we will go for it. Cheers. Will check out that website too.

The US per diem rates allow for USD $145 for housing and $85 for food for a day. This applies to business travellers who stay in international hotel chains, eat in nice restaurants, and travel by cab but don%26#39;t necessarily pay for entrance tickets and tours.

So you can manage on 50 US dollars per day per person, but you could also easily spend 200 as there is a very big range in cost of both hotels and restaurants.

I would say that 200-500 RMB per day would be enough, depending on your own spending habits.
