Spending chinese new year in beijing

hihi,

I%26#39;m currently at shanghai and am looking to spend chinese new year at beijing. Just wondering if you guys can help with some questions that i have:

(1)where can i book trains tickets from shanghai to beijing?

(2)Is chinese new year a good time to visit beijing? Would the major attractions be closed during the chinese new year period?

(3)Any budget hotels/hostels to recommend for budget travellers, preferably near public transport and near the major attractions?

Thank you for your advice in advance!

you can book the tickets from your hotel, but will charge 30RMB.marot attracions never closed at CNY.you should book the hotel near Wangfujing or Xidan, its convenience to take public transport.

Now here is a concept that no one has mentioned so far, each year in the newspapers around China they show photos of how many people are physically pushed into long distance trains, over these peak holiday travel days, which is a two week window.

So holding a seat on a sleeper or any ticket means nothing when literally two thousand extra tickets are sold for people to stand on that same train.

It makes it impossible to move anywhere on the train and go to the toilet or even open a window.

I have heard stories from College students about their harrowing train trips just trying to go home for their annual family gathering.

I would strong incourage you to aviod train travel or any form of travel within China during this period.

Put the population of Singapore in the Orchard road area and you might have some idea how many people in mass are at the stations.

1) Best (meaning non-crowded) place to try would be at the soft-seat ticket office at Shanghai main train station.

2) No attractions would be closed for the Chinese New Year period.

3) What%26#39;s your budget like and what dates would you be in Beijing?

Actually, I wouldn%26#39;t mind if you email me at ellyse99@yahoo.com as I%26#39;ve got another Singaporean traveller (I presume it%26#39;s not you!) who%26#39;s also looking into going to Beijing for the Chinese New Year holiday. Please put ';TripAdvisor kanes'; in the subject line so that I don%26#39;t junk your email by mistake, thanks. I myself should be heading to Fujian province to spend the festival with paternal relatives... can%26#39;t get any reasonably-priced tickets though! :(
