In Town Check-IN Service at Kowloon

I%26#39;m flying Singapore Airlines. Apparently they have an in-town check-in service at Kowloon Station.

Has anyone used this service before?

By Check-In, does this mean I can already check-in all my luggage there? My flight is in the evening. If yes, I%26#39;d like to check-in all my luggage in the morning %26amp; not have to lug them ard whilst i spend the rest of the day touring the city before my flight.

Could this work?

Or is the check-in only to get a confirmed seat/boarding pass %26amp; i still have to check-in my luggage at the airport???

Yes, you can indeed check in your luggage in the morning, get a boarding pass, and spend the rest of your touring until it%26#39;s time to take the train to the airport. To use the in-town check-in service, you must have bought a ticket to use the Airport Express train. Therefore, you cannot go to the airport by bus or taxi and still receive the in-town check-in service unless you want to waste your AE ticket.

Thanks Sammyfloyd for the info.

But do I buy the airport express ticket at the check-in counter itself or do I have to buy it beforehand?

Also, do you know if its possible to check-in an extra bag at the airport again later if necessary? We might keep aside one bag for all our extra last minute shopping after the morning check-in.

There will be a total of 8 of us travelling together so I need to be sure of everything to prevent last minute chaos... :)

A million thanks for your help in advance!

You can buy the AE ticket at any MTR station before hand or even right before you check-in. There will be a ticket counter right outside the check-in area. You must run your ticket through the turnstiles before you can get to the check-in counters. This is the way they ensure that only AE passengers can use the in-town check-in service.

Yes, you can check another bag again once you get to the airport. See if Singapore has a bag drop line only. Some airlines has the bag drop line for passengers who have boarding passes already (usually from online check-in) so that could save you from having to wait in the main queue.

Sammy:

My wife and I will be leaving Hong Kong for Taipei and Okinawa via China Air on Friday. We have the AE Octopus cards, which we used to get to our hotel. But we have e-tickets for the return flight. Do you know if China Air at the Kowloon AE terminal can issue us a boarding pass so we can check our bags in Kowloon on our departure?

Spinkk,

They should be able to check you in without a problem. Most airlines issue e-tickets these days, and I have not had a problem with them previously. Unless there is a specific airline policy that prevents in-town check-in (such as on the American carriers), then you should be able to get your boarding pass.

When%26#39;s a good time to visit Okinawa? Is it as expensive as the rest of Japan? I have thought about going there the last couple of years. I wish they have a direct flight!

Sammy:

Thanks. We%26#39;ll let you know if we have a problem on Friday.

Okinawa is a little cheaper than mainland Japan, and is like Hawaii was thirty years ago - great resorts, uncrowded roads and beaches, and virtually no crime or pickpockets. Rainy season starts in late April or early May and runs through June. Then it%26#39;s hot and humid between typhoons until October. November, February, March and early April are the best weather.

Most flights to Okinawa go through Osaka or Narita, with two daily flights on China Air from Taipei to Naha. If you%26#39;re coming drop me a line. You can rent a car (they drive on the left) and reach some beachside smaller resorts that cost as little as Y9000 per night.
