has anyone been to Wuzhen?

Have been told it is good, but cannot find it in any of the guide books. Or maybe I am spelling it wrong???

It is roughly between Suzhou and Hangzhou.

Would like to know if it is worth visiting. Will be there mid April

I%26#39;ve been to Wuzhen and most of the other water villages around Shanghai. Wuzhen is in Zhejiang province, have a look at http://www.wuzhen.com.cn for more information if you%26#39;re interested.

Personally I would say Wuzhen pales in comparison to Xitang; my other favourites apart from Xitang would be Tongli and Luzhi in Jiangsu province.

Yes I have been to Wuzhen and found the place fascinating. Unbelievably, some people (aged) still live in the village. A kind of living museum - although the guide explained they do have some help with expenses as a result of putting up with people looking through windows at them.

It is a lovely place with dark wood panelled houses and picturesque scenery. I enjoyed the place and even the food was good there. We tried some local confectionary which was very strange to look at but i tasted good.

The website abovementioned is a great place to learn about the village.

When you arrive at the place there is just a huge carpark - so you don%26#39;t really know what to expect from outside. Thankfuly the place was quiet the day we went there. It takes a fair time getting out there. About two hours.

The interesting thing about the trip out is the number of new housing estates - ALL empty!! Construction for what purpose?

It is worth vsiting.Look up the website above for the map which shows that it is close to Hangzhou.

thank you both - think we will give it a try. Its website - albeit VERY slow - is great. Loads of atmosphere.
