Day Trip Out Of Hong Kong

Hi,

My wife and I will be in HK from 3/2-3/19. If we wanted to take a 1-2 hour train trip out of the city for the day to explore another area, what are your recommendations? We%26#39;re not shopping junkies.

Train wise... there isn%26#39;t much choice except Shenzhen or Guangzhou. However, most people go to SZ for shopping, and Guangzhou, not really much to see.... except for conventions and fairs.

Have you been to Macau? It%26#39;s 1 hour ferry from Kowloon or HK island, beautiful for a 1-2 day stay.

No I haven%26#39;t. This will be our first trip to HK. Can we get a good taste of Macau if we catch an early ferry from HK and return that evening?

I did Macau as a day trip, 2 days woud be nicer, but it%26#39;s not that big so you can see the most famous parts in one day.

I would do day trips inside the HK SAR. There are beautiful islands lonely beaches! nice hiking possibilites.I went for example to the grass island. It%26#39;s a 2 hour boat trip with a great view. On the island is a fishing village of 100 people living there, on the other side of the island some people were camping between a few cows. It%26#39;s not what I had expected in HK.
