a group of 5 of us are arriving at 0800 ...yet the bus timetables i can find dont show any departures till approx . 1100 hrs ... any other ways of getting to SUZHOU ?

The first bus directly from Pudong airport to Suzhou is at 1040. Since you%26#39;re arriving at 0800, I reckon it might be almost 0900 by the time you clear immigration and baggage claim. You could then take airport shuttle no.5 to Shanghai main train station (18 RMB, journey time about 1+ hour) and take a train to Suzhou. However, I don%26#39;t think it would really be that much faster than waiting for the direct bus, though it would be cheaper (18 RMB for the airport shuttle, about 25 RMB max for the train to Suzhou in soft seat, total of 43 RMB) as the bus costs about 100 RMB. It%26#39;s up to you to balance the time and cost.

I recommend that you arrange with the hotel to send a car or van for you. It%26#39;s a long ride, about 2 hours and it is quite difficult for us Westerners to find buses and trains; belive me it can be a nightmare.

I have gone the hotel car route several times, and was very glad to have it all arranged when I arrived all jet lagged. The driver was waiting with a sign with my name. All you have to do is follow him to his car, and he does the rest!

Yes, it%26#39;s quite a bit more expensive, but after visiting China (on business) many dozens of times, it is well worth it.

the Bus for you family of 5 is a very good choice and Ellsye has given you very good info.

There is a desk right at the arrival hall, with information on all the buses.

Personally I would recommend go straight to an apartment in Shanghai,and give those kids some excercise for a couple of days before ';more'; travel.

Anyone who can afford to stay at the Suzhou Sheraton,with a family of 5, probably not Bob could have the hotel car pick them up at the airport, it would be about the same cost as a shuttle the same distance in the US%26gt;
