I found some pen pals for my 8 year old son one in hong kong and one in beijing -- and we plan to meet them when we get there. A chinese friend told me that it was customary to bring gifts to a chinese home --
does anyone know if that is true -- I%26#39;m happy to bring the kids some tshirts from la but not sure --

thank you we will bring little gifts. especially children. Maybe venice beach t shirts or hollywood t shirts or hats since little toys are all made in china!

Yes, it is customary to give gifts. Since they are pen pals, you might be able to bring something appropriate for their interests. We do try hard to find things that are not made in China.
I think T-shirts would be good.
Otherwise, anything in a nice container will do--such as a tin of cookies or candy.
If all else fails, pick up from nice fruit on the day of your visit. If you buy fruit, buy twice as much as seems reasonable to you.
thank you for the information especially the fruit or treats.

Make sure the gifts you bring don%26#39;t have ';Made in China'; anywhere on them or their packaging. Even Aussie koala bear toys sometimes have that label on them! What a booboo it would be.
Thanks -- I will try for t shirts -- american brand -- with something american written on them like from American apparel!
