Thank you

My suggestion for any first-time Beijing visitor is Wangfujing. It is a long, pedestrian-only shopping street, dead-center of town, walking distance to Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and the Qianmen shopping area. It has lots of shops, shopping malls, hotels, and restaurants in a range of prices. Plenty of activity day and night, taxi drivers know how to get there, and lots of tourist infrastructure.

Not much in the way of %26#39;pubs%26#39;, though. Unlike most cities, Beijing likes to concentrate the bars and pubs in well-defined areas. There is a famous ';Bar Street'; in the Sanlitun area (which is accessible from Wangfujing by taxi or subway), and there are also clubs and pubs in the Back Lakes area, north of the Forbidden City (also accessible by taxi/subway).

Yes, Wangfujing would be a good choice. I%26#39;d also try to stay within comfortable walking distance of a metro stop, that really helps in getting around quickly and relatively painlessly.

I%26#39;ve been to Beijing twice in the past year and have stayed at the Peninsula Palace hotel both times. It%26#39;s walking distance to Wangfujing and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The complimentary breakfast buffets are amazing. I literally didn%26#39;t have to eat all day after, save for a small snack!

Wangfujing?? is it the road or hotel? anyone, pls gimme details on it. im looking for backpacker%26#39;s place. with around 40-50 yuan/nite ;) Thanks in advance..

The area, obviously, since that was what was asked for.

peja: You might want to try having a look at the hostels for dorm beds, your budget won%26#39;t get you a private room. My top picks would be Peking Downtown Backpackers Accommodation (http://www.greatwalladventure.com/hostel.htm), Far East IYH (http://www.fareastyh.com) and City Central IYH (http://www.centralhostel.com).

Is the toilet in City Central Hostel western or squat?

Sorry, I%26#39;m not sure. Try asking the hostel directly.

i already emailed them but got no reply... anyway thanks =)
