my friend from Houston and I plan to book a China tour (including Tibet) through China Highlights. Can you tell us a bit about the agency please? Did you pay them using your credit card? What about the hotels that you provide you - are the hotels good? Was there a guide that takes you around at every city?

I paid using my credit card and had no problem. If you take the train to Tibet make sure and get a spoft sleeper. SInce there are 2 of you, I suggest that you reserve the other 2 beds and have the compartment to yourselves. It is worth the money. The X%26#39;ian train station is a zoo so make sure you get a porter to take your bags to the train. There is a special waiting area for the train.

In Beijing I stayed in Guangzhou Hotel Beijing. I would not suggest this hotel because the hotel reeked of smoke. THe non-smoking rooms smelled like a bar. THe only thing good was the breakfast.

I suggest that you do not have them include your meals in the trip. The restaurants are not that good and there isnno selection. I told them to take me to other places and I paid the differrence.

I CANNOT STRESS THE IMPORTANCE OF TELLING THEM THAT YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE TAKEN TO SHOPS. I REALLY HAD A PROBLEM WITH THIS IN BEIJING ON THE FIRST DAY AND ON X%26#39;IAN ON ONE DAY. I HAD AN EXCELLENT GUIDE AFTER I RETURNED TO BEIJING.

TaKke Diamox for altitude sickness. I went to Baylor Travel Medicine in HOuston for shots and pills. Best money I ever spent!

The river cruise was nice but the food was very bland. Bring some snacks for yourself.

I enjoyed TIbet the most and then the cruise. I was expecting more in X%26#39;ian. Beijing is huge. I went through the museums on my own or I told the guide to give methe ';short'; version. There is so much that after a while it just becomes foggy.
