Bars,money and taxis

Hi,

Going out to Shanghai for a long weekend at the end of the month. During my free time i%26#39;ll probably just visit a few bars, the British Bulldog will be a novelty. What other bars are reccomended and what kind of price can I expect to pay for a beer. Also are the taxis fairly cheap to use? I%26#39;ll be in a group staying at the Renaissance Yangtze.

Many thanks.

Bars,money and taxis

That hotel is in Hongqiao area, a bit far from most of the tourist attractions. Taxi to what I consider downtown Shanghai would cost around 30 RMB. Taxi prices go up after 2300, so a ride back from downtown Shanghai would be around 40-50 RMB, more if coming back from Pudong.

The nearest you might be going to look for something to drink might be Hongmei Lu, popular with expats. Other bar areas are Tongren Lu, Hengshan Lu, Maoming Lu, Fuxing Park, Xintiandi and Julu Lu.

My other favourite bars would be Cloud 9 in the Grand Hyatt (87th floor of Jinmao Tower in Pudong), TMSK in Xintiandi, People 6 in the French Concession area and Face Bar in Ruijin Guesthouse (also French Concession area). Cotton Club (also French Concession area) would also be recommended for live jazz.

Beer would probably cost anything from 15-60 RMB at these places.

I%26#39;m studying in Shanghai, email me at ellyse99@yahoo.com (please put ';TripAdvisor Violator'; in the subject line so that I don%26#39;t junk your email by mistake, thanks) if you%26#39;d like to meet up for a drink sometime.
