Well im trying to pack alot in my trip any suggestions?
arriving in shanghai in march 1 to 16.
planning to stay in shanghai 4 days,
suggestions of what to do?
then 2 days chongquin: Panda zoo, dazu and if there is a small boat ride to some of the atractions from the river cruise:fengdu city? death city/ghost city...
but will not be taking cruise, it seems boring...not sure if there are just a local boat for a short ride.
then possibly heading to xian: terra cota, city wall, and mount huashan: take the rail car? 2 days only...
then to datong: yungang caves and if possible to the longmen caves in luoyang..? can i do this two in only 1 day?
and then to beijing for last 4 days?
i was thinking that i can fly to chongquin from shanghai? and then fly to xian? or from chongquin and then take the train from xian to datong or to luoyang?? and then fly to beijing??
note sure what is a smart route, i arrive in shanghai and leave from shanghai.
any suggestions
going to china 15 days need suggestions on sites and how to
What are your sightseeing interests and preferences like? There%26#39;re many things that you could visit in 4 days in Shanghai. I would also recommend taking a sidetrip to Hangzhou as well if you want to see some nature.
2 days for Chongqing is ok, but I wouldn%26#39;t really think Fengdu Ghost City is a must-see. It felt like a tacky theme park to me. But if you really want, it%26#39;s possible to do it as a daytrip by bus from Chongqing.
You don%26#39;t have time to see Huashan AND Xi%26#39;an if you only have 2 days. You only have time for Xi%26#39;an, especially if you%26#39;re taking train. Or did I misunderstand what you meant by ';take the rail car';?
Please look on the map and you would realise that it%26#39;s impossible to see both the Yungang Grottoes at Datong and Longmen Grottoes at Luoyang in the same day. You can see EITHER but not both.
Yes, you%26#39;re well-advised to fly Shanghai -- Chongqing as the only train would take 41 hours for the journey.
Chongqing -- Xi%26#39;an is possible by overnight train, though if you really want to splurge you could fly. IMHO that%26#39;s not a very good use of time and money though.
You can take an overnight train to Datong/Luoyang, and then continue by another overnight train to Beijing.
For Beijing -- Shanghai, the best option would be the comfy overnight Z trains.
Another suggestion, you might consider visiting Chengdu instead of Chongqing. I%26#39;ve been to both recently (Chengdu in Oct 2006 and Chongqing in Jan 2007) for about 1+ day each and would prefer Chengdu to Chongqing.
Your route seems ok otherwise.
Email me at ellyse99@yahoo.com (please put ';TripAdvisor nyang'; in the subject line so that I don%26#39;t junk your email by mistake, thanks) if you have another more queries or simply want to discuss itinerary ideas. I%26#39;m studying in Shanghai and have travelled extensively around mainland China including all the places on your itinerary with the exception of Datong.
