We are travelling in mid October to China and thought to start in Beijing, then go to Xian, Shanghai, Guilin (Yangshouo), Guanzhou then Hong Kong. (Guangzhou is not an option) Is this the correct order to do this? I had originally looked at doing it with Shanghai and Guillin switched, but that doesn%26#39;t make sense on the maps I see. Would a train make more sense from Guilin to Guangzhou?
Beijing to Hong Kong
Sounds fine to me.
Make a beeline for Yangshuo (http://www.yangers.com) as soon as you get to Guilin. You can continue onward to Guangzhou by direct bus from Yangshuo, no need to backtrack and get a train.
Beijing to Hong KongThanks, that certainly makes sense. Do we not have to backtrack to take the Li River Cruise?
Skip that one. I would instead recommend doing the shorter and cheaper one from Yangshuo to Xingping (IIRC) on bamboo rafts.
Thank you, that looks interesting. I would imagine this can be set up through our hotel? I would love to have a recommendation on a tour guide for this portion of our trip.
