Getting Sanya from HK

Hi all,

I%26#39;m planning to get over to Sanya in the cheapest possible manner from HK. Flights are easy but are expensive for my limited budget so seeking to see if land prices can be another option.

What%26#39;s the options? HK-Shenzen/Guangzhou-Haiku-Sanya with combination of trains, coaches? What are the prices and is there a timetable (if no connecting transport have to fork out for a room overnight). We got a manderin, chinese linguist with our group so local dialects ain%26#39;t a barrier in purchasing ticket.

Thanks in advance. Oh! is early May a good season?

Getting Sanya from HK

No, avoid the 1st week of May by all means if at all possible, especially if it%26#39;s your 1st trip to China. It%26#39;s the Labour Day holiday week when many mainland Chinese would take the chance to travel. It would be difficult to get transport, less discounts for accommodation and flights and crowds of people everywhere stepping on your toes and elbowing you in your ribs, hardly my idea of a holiday.

If you still aren%26#39;t daunted, you should get to Guangzhou (not Shenzhen) from Hong Kong by train/bus (check out http://www.kcrc.com for more details eg train fares and schedules) and then transfer to an overnight train for Guangzhou -- Haikou. The schedules and prices might be adjusted in mid-April, so check back after that for those details. There%26#39;s no train further south than Haikou, so you%26#39;d need to go by bus.
