I%26#39;m staying at the Crowne Plaza Fudan next month, following the great feedback from many forumers. I know it%26#39;s far from the tourist attractions, but it%26#39;ll be my 7th time in Shanghai and I%26#39;m travelling for business, so that%26#39;s not a problem.
A work mate lives in Pudong, and we%26#39;ll be visiting some suppliers outside the city during the day, so we%26#39;ll basically be in Shanghai in the evenings. My question is: how long is the taxi ride from the hotel to anywhere in Pudong, either in the rush hour or late at night? I haven%26#39;t been able to find Fudan in a Shanghai map; is it north, east, west of the river?
Thanks in advance.
From Fudan to Pudong
Fudan university (basically where the hotel is) is in Puxi ie west of the river, and to the north. It%26#39;s in Yangpu district, if that helps.
Taxi to People%26#39;s Square would be about 30 RMB and half an hour, depending on traffic. Taxi to Lujiazui should be about the same. Taxi to Pudong airport would be about 140 RMB and could be anything from 40 mins to 1+ hour -- I%26#39;ve done these trips (People%26#39;s Square area and Pudong airport) at least 3 times within the past week!
In case you%26#39;re interested, the cheapest way to get there from Pudong airport would be to take airport shuttle no.4 from Pudong airport for 16 RMB, then taxi for about 12-15 RMB.
From Fudan to Pudong
Very useful reply, thanks Ellyse. I guess it will be a convenient location after all, because one day we%26#39;ll be driving to Wuxi and another one we%26#39;ll be flying to Ningbo from Hongqiao Airport. I guess it%26#39;ll be wiser for my colleague from Pudong to come to my hotel and then leave from there, rather than me going to his appartment in Pudong to fetch him.
Yes, it would definitely make sense for your workmate to come fetch you at your hotel before continuing to either Hongqiao airport or Wuxi.
I think you%26#39;d need to take the outer ring road to the west part of Shanghai and pass by Hongqiao airport before getting on the highway to Wuxi, but I could be wrong.
Taxi from your hotel (not Pudong) to Hongqiao airport would cost about 80-100 RMB depending on traffic.
Xie xie! Shanghai is such a massive city that I feel I should carry a compass with me all the time. :-)

No problem, glad to be of help. :)
Feel free to email me if you%26#39;d like to meet up for a chat/tea/meal in Shanghai, I%26#39;m studying here -- though not at Fudan, many of my friends are. :P Address is ellyse99@yahoo.com and don%26#39;t forget to put ';TripAdvisor josmon10'; in the subject line so that I don%26#39;t junk your email by mistake, thanks.
I always have a very tight schedule in China, but I%26#39;ll bring your e-mail with me in case I can find the time to meet, it should be nice.
Just a pity that business trips leave very little time for leisure :-(
-sighz- Yes, that%26#39;s always the case!
