If your 31 and single, being paid the same salary as UK, I think you can have a very comfortable and exciting lifestyle in Guangzhou.

If you already have Asian experience, it will not be that hard.

If that experience is Singapore, well this would be a culture shock, the real Asia so to speak.

Just don%26#39;t fall into all the usual Expat traps, stay at a hotel, take time to choose, where to live ,what to pay, how to commute.

Joing the British association, or their evening networking and boozing group, asap.

Ask those expats, where do they live, why? and how much do they pay.

Me live in Guangzhou for more than 3.5yrs.

Most Ex-pat with good salary may like to stay at Er-Sa Area. Rental are high (USD2000). Beside hving Intern%26#39;l school, afew rest and it is quite, there isnt anymore things to do there.

If u want to be in the heart of the city, rent an apt along Tao Jin Dong Road (USD900) many shops, supermarkets %26amp; shopping area. u can find branded goods (cK, Boss, Timberland, Cucci) real or fake ones. there is a Garden Hotel across the other side. Beside local chinese food, u can find an Irish Pub, afew Italian rest, even Thai %26amp; Arab foods are available around this area.

I live here too. I hv nighbours from Aust, Germany, Turkey, England, Italy, Indonesia, India.....etc.

To me, GZ is not China. They speak their own laug., they willing to eat any ';Life'; objects that hv legs....ha ha ha!! Pollution, dusty, rubbish every where. Too many poor people from outside the cities enter Guangzhou to look for jobs (many factories here), so crime rate is high as alot cant find a job.

Tks good, GZ is only a stone throw away from HK %26amp; Macau. U can viist either 1 for a break anytime u want. U can also take a cheap weekend holiday to Singapore or Bangkok by talking budget airline (Tiger Air from GZ to SG or AirAsia from Macau to BBK).

Since u are English, u can watch from local TV max. 3 English football matches on every Sat live and sometime Itay plus English live on Sun. This city love football. U can watch HK TV promgrame here too.

GZ is totally diff from other cities in China or in Asia. U must c it 4 yourself!!!

Contact me again if a need arises. Good Luck!!

Email me at ellyse99@yahoo.com and put ';TripAdvisor Glen-uk'; in the subject line so that I don%26#39;t junk your email by mistake. I could put you in touch with a Canadian lady who lived with her family for a number of years in Guangzhou and who moved back to Canada last year. I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s appropriate to give out her email on the open forum.
