Hello everyone
I am off to Hong Kong at the end of January for 10 days holiday. I would love any handy hints, places to go etc. I have been there once but way back in 1993.
I LOVE to shop, both nice mall-type shopping and market shops, love to eat and am fairly adventurous with cheap, sidewalk kind of food. I will be with my boyfriend who is there for work so will have my days to myself so need some nice day trips to keep me busy. Our hotel is the Park Lane in Causeway Bay so any tips within walking distance (dinner, bars etc) of there would be great too.
Thanks. This is my first posting so anyone ever needs any advice on Adelaide or Australia let me know.

Shoppers paradise.....I like the sound of that!
Does HK have Gap or any of the American clothing chains?
It is incredible what is available compared to Australia. Designer labels that you only see in O/S magazines. Far more than available even in Sydney. Go to Lane Crawford in Times Square and be amazed at the range of cosmetic brands. Also with food try this website to find out some of the available retaurants closeby. Ther is an excellent deli below Lane Crawford too. For food - try www.hongkongfoodguide.com/eng/index.shtml
hi elsa,
we just came back from HK, where we spent most part of our 5 day stay, shopping in causeway bay area. a good place to start shopping would be the sogo department store. then just venture out to the various shops around the area. if you need a point of reference, just walk towards times square. again plenty of shops with small local type cafes along the way and around the area. being non-chinese speaking and fussy eaters, was a bit difficult for us to order in these small local cafes, but there%26#39;s a good local chain called cafe de coral(which is everywhere) with english menus. food was local and rather excellent i thought.and the menu changes through out the day...
around times square area also saw a lot day-spas... you might wanna check them out as well.
enjoy!
Thank you everyone. I love the sound of Lane Crawford - I am a cosmetic junkie and find Australian shops terrible. Sephora in Paris is my favourite place on the earth I think.
I was thinking of a few day trips like the island where the Buddha is (Lantau I think). I am sure I will be kept busy!
You must go to Sasa, the comestic chain. If you search ';Sasa'; in this forum, you can see so many fellow Australians recommended Sasa.
Thank you everyone for the advice. I have just got back and had a wonderful trip. I think I did everything on the list given, did masses of shopping, went to 4 Lane Crawfords, found Sasa and bought loads of cheap stuff, went to Shenzen, had dim sum.....the list goes on.
Hightlight was the cable car back from the Big Buddha. I can highly recommend that to anyone however go early like we did, the queues were hurrendous in the afternoon.
Oh yes, weather was gorgeous - no humidity, sunny, quite clear and 18 degres everyday, perfect for walking around and sightseeing.
Your thank you is welcome. Good to hear all of the info was useful.
