Do you have any good tips for Disney?

We%26#39;re staying in HK for 3 nights %26amp; 4 days in April. Arrive very early in the morning and plan to head to our hotel at Disney, dump bags etc. then head off to Ngong Ping by cable car. Next day plan to visit The Peak and anything else on HK Island/Kowloon that takes our fancy, maybe the jade market. The following day we%26#39;re sepnding at Disney and probably most of the next day as well because if you stay at Disney hotel you get a second days ticket free. Since it%26#39;s on Lantau with the airport it seemed like a good idea to spend our last day there as we can leave our bags at the hotel then head off to the airport in the evening for our flight home.

Has anyone got any good tips for Disney? Things like the best rides, shows etc. Which places are good to eat and worth the money? Does anyone know how good the food is at the Hollywood, that%26#39;s where we%26#39;re staying.

What else should we try to see on the day we head over to The Peak? We%26#39;ll have a 7 year old child with us who will probably whinge if things are too boring for her........where would be the best place to take her for tea (dinner) she will try new things if she%26#39;s in the mood but she is really a chicken nugget kid although she is not allowed to eat at McDonalds. Her dad and I like oriental food so we%26#39;re hoping for a mixture and maybe somewhere close to where the light show is in the evening so we can see it before we head back to Lantau.

Hope someone can help. Many thanks. Alf

Do you have any good tips for Disney?

Hi there! I%26#39;ve been lucky to have been to Disneyland Hong Kong 2x already - first in October 2005 and in March 2006. Will be going again end of next month! :) I%26#39;ve been to other Disney parks and I wouldn%26#39;t do any comparisons. It is something you have to enjoy and not compare to anything else. Just have fun and enjoy it as much as your 7 year old would.

Personally, the most important tip I could give is to make sure the day you%26#39;ve allotted for Disney is not a weekend or a special holiday. Avoid the crowds. I%26#39;ve experienced people cutting lines and would just look at you if you complain. Well, most of my bad experiences with Disneyland happened during my first visit which was just a few weeks after the opening so I guess that explains the crowd and stuff. I%26#39;ve made sure my second trip to the park was on a Monday, arriving at 11am. By 5pm, we saw all the shows and tried most of the rides (except for the kiddie ones of course).

Another tip is to first get the day%26#39;s schedule/park map so you can carefully plan out which to do first. You can get this at the hotel or in the main entrance. Schedules are usually posted also online at

On my second visit(together with first timers), I was able to bring them to all of the shows which, in my opinion are must sees - Golden Mickeys (which although the hosts spoke in Chinese didnt bother us at all), your kid will enjoy the 4D Mickey%26#39;s Philharmagic, and don%26#39;t ever miss The Festival of the Lion King (a broadway like spectacle!). It%26#39;s fairly easy to plan your Disneyland activities. You may also do this ahead by checking their online sched. All important and special activities are laid out online similar to this:

鈥ongkongdisneyland.com/hkdl/鈥?/a>

For the rides, you might also want to consider the Fastpass facility which allows you to get a ticket for a specific ride and avoid the lines. Just come back at a specified time in your ticket. I%26#39;m sure you don%26#39;t want to hear any complaints from your kid with the long lines! Info on fastpass is also available in their website.

There%26#39;s a specified area where you can line up at gazebos to take pictures with the characters. Oh I did this during the first visit. Only to find out when we got back to the hotel (Hollywood Hotel) that Disney characters walk around and pose for pictures with less people meaning less or no lines at all! Of course there%26#39;s no guarantee that you%26#39;ll have a picture with most of them at the hotel. but since you%26#39;ll be staying there, I%26#39;m sure by the time you go to the park you%26#39;ve interacted with most of them around the lobby already. You can check out some of my pictures taken at the hotel together with my brief review:

As for Hollywood Hotel%26#39;s restaurants - I enjoyed the dinner buffet at Chef Mickey. I%26#39;m sure your kid will enjoy the food. There are plenty to choose from, but I%26#39;m sure she%26#39;ll have a blast with the dessert area - specially if she likes Mickey Mouse! Aside from Chef Mickey, we also tried Hollywood and Dine, the hotel%26#39;s fast food type outlet - Avoid if you must, it was the only disappointing thing about our stay in the hotel.

It%26#39;s so easy to go to and from the hotel and the park via the regular shuttle bus. You are also allowed to be dropped off at the other Disney hotel for you to explore. I%26#39;m trying out the Enchanted Garden restaurant at the Disneyland Hotel in my next visit.

Have fun!

Thanks Impulse

That%26#39;s a great load of information. This will be our first and probably only trip to Disney (my husband is not a fan) so I%26#39;m keen to see and do everything for my daughter. We%26#39;ve got the chance to have a second days entry ticket free as we%26#39;re staying at the hotel so we%26#39;ll take advantage of that and then we don%26#39;t have to rush anything we can try again the next day if we miss anything although our 2nd day would be a Saturday. Do you know anything about the character breakfast? Is it worth it and they seem to have 2 the set breakfast or the buffet depending on whether it%26#39;s a weekday or a weekend, do you know which is best?

Thanks again, Alf.

Just had a look at your review Impulse, it%26#39;s great. Very helpful. That dessert buffet looks great, chocolate fountain, she%26#39;s going to love this place!!!!!!!!!!! Me too.........

Alf.

Thanks Alf!

I%26#39;m not sure which you are referring to with the ';character breakfast';. But it sounds like its the breakfast at Enchanted Garden at the Hongkong Disneyland Hotel. From their website, the come on to the restaurant is this:

';A highlight of every meal are the Disney Characters who delight the entire family with a visit to your table.';

So if that%26#39;s what you%26#39;re after, well I guess it%26#39;s worth it. Haven%26#39;t tried it myself though. But am paying them a visit for dinner in 23 days! :)

Hi

Alf! I%26#39;ve been to HK Disneyland 2x with my kids. Last trip was Dec 2006. The Character Breakfast is a privilege given to hotel guests. We booked our character breakfast at the Plaza Inn inside Disneyland! I highly recommend it. It allows you to be inside the park one hour before it opens. It is a set oriental breakfast. It was yummy! There was congee and dimsum. I think you can also order continental/american breakfast like eggs, sausages and bacon. The interiors of the resto is nice.... Chinese, yet Disney-like. Minnie Mouse (we went on a regular day) was dressed in an adorable Chinese costume and went from table to table to greet guests and pose for pictures. I think it was worth it bec prior to the meal we were able to get really nice family pictures in front of the castle without strangers walking behind us... it pays to be early!! It%26#39;s worth it.

Thanks HotMama.

I%26#39;ll definitely be booking a character breakfast then, I just didn%26#39;t know if you had an ordinary breakfast at the hotel if there would be characters around anyway and I confused my self with the different places they do the character breakfast I was thinking they did it at the Hollywood which is where we%26#39;re staying but they don%26#39;t.

The Plaza where you had yours says the food is traditional chinese and I have a fussy 7 year old who likes western food, the best I can get her to do is eat rice!!!!!! What kind of stuff did you get for breakfast?

Thanks for the photo tip too. Alf.

Hi Alf! Yes, they do serve traditional chinese breakfast. I think there is 2 or 3 set menu options(per person) to choose from. If memory serves me right, my husband ordered a western breakfast with eggs, sausages, bread and mickey mouse shaped chocolate waffle! Do you think your child will eat that?

At the Hollywood Hotel, there is a good buffet breakfast at Chef Mickey. There is a lot to choose from but NO CHARACTERS. At night, when you get back from the park, characters (Chip and Dale) will be at the hotel lobby to meet and greet hotel guests.

My daughter loved Golden Mickeys, MadHatter Cups, PhilHarmagic and the Buzz Lightyear ride. I loved the Lion kING show.

Thanks HotMama, that%26#39;s great. She doesn%26#39;t get that for breakfast at home but sausages, eggs %26amp; bread would be just her choice if she goes out for breakfast. She%26#39;d probably kill for a chocolate waffle!!!!!!!

Me too for that matter.......

Thanks again. Alf.

don%26#39;t miss the FIREWORKS at 8PM..... the best among the best.... the cost of your disney ticket covers already the fireworks.... we watched all the shows, superb! dont miss also the shows....
