Best/Cheapest place to buy electrical goods in Central HK?

Hello all!

I%26#39;m staying in central HK for only 2days in March and was hoping to pick up some electrical bargains whilst there. I will be later flying over to New Zealand for a camper van holiday so I am looking for a portable DVD player that can plug into a car cigarette lighter. Such things are quite expensive here in the UK. I want to get one that will work here in the UK aswell. Can anyone direct me to a good place in HK?

Thanks

Best/Cheapest place to buy electrical goods in Central HK?

Hi

I went to Times Square mall in Causeway Bay and there is an electronics store upstairs (sorry, forgot the name but it%26#39;s a big chain) where I bought my portable multistandard DVD player. They were very helpful, had a wide choice, and the prices were very good. Plus they threw in a couple of free gifts as well!

This dvd player works fine in the UK.

I didn%26#39;t fancy any of the %26#39;smaller%26#39; stores as I felt the waranty on them may not be 100% good. Plus a lot of them don%26#39;t show prices. I much preferred the normal electrical items retail store experience and I didn%26#39;t pay over the odds. In fact I got the top of the range (at the time!) for very little cost.

Hope this helps.

Fortress, Broadway.. They won%26#39;t be the cheapest but reliable, and will tell you if international warranty is included. virtually all DVD players sold in HK are region free. Not all have universal voltage, and yet even less with car adapters.

Don%26#39;t know how much you%26#39;re budgeting but for any high end purchase, or where warranties and compatability is of concern, see the following which relate largely to other electronics but the advice applies equally to all electronic goods :

For shopping at reputable stores such as ';Broadway'; or ';Fortress';, see:

Their suprisingly cheap here in NZ, just bought one for our car with twin screens from a Oz %26amp; NZ chain of elecrical stores called ';DickSmiths'; (have a looky here......

Don%26#39;t forget the cheepies on the street markets are there for a reason even if brand new %26amp; still shrink rapped, the last 2 we have brought home although still going are super fussy in what will %26amp; won%26#39;t run, they%26#39;ve become the ';kids'; ones.

Having said that I have bought many a item in HKG %26amp; China simply because it was not avail here in the antipodies for yonks after the rest of the world called it old hat, but nowadays with all this free trade goings on here in NZ, stuff nowadays is here %26amp; dirt cheap even in the supermarkets.

As for a trip did exactly that last year with drive right the east coast of Australia ( %26amp; a quickly bored wee 7 yr old in tow) so the DVD player helped immensely, also picked up a 2 controller basic game set thingy that plugged into the AV ports for NZ$20.

Hope that helps, if there%26#39;s anything else I can help with locally, sing out.

Broadway, Fortress, Citicall are all reliable chain stores in HK. I personally like to check out prices from Citicall, but Broadway is easier to find in large shopping malls.
