Nine days in Beijing

We are coming to Beijing in April for 9 nights and, while I%26#39;m sure there will be more than enough to keep us occupied in the city for that amount of time, we wondered if anyone had suggestions of an overnight out-of-town trip we could take - either by train or plane. Since we%26#39;ll be in the city for most of the time, it would be great to get a glimpse of rural China, if that is feasible.

Nine days in Beijing

You might take a day trip to Tianjin. It is about 1/12 hrs by train. Check Google for what to see and do there. Interesting one day trip. Food is pretty good.

You can also fly to Xian (Terra Cotta Warriors). You can overnight or, I think, fly back the same night. Again, study what you might want to do, before you go.

My wife and I will be in Beijnig in April. We are taking a group of 14 folks to Shanghai (3 nts.(, a 4 night bYangtze river Cruise and then 7 nts. in Beijing. This will be our 14 trip to China.

Nine days in Beijing

Chengde, Pingyao, Datong are good choices for you.

Cheers

All those places named above are still all cities, with the possible exception of Pingyao.

If you could get your hands on a copy of the Frommer%26#39;s guidebook, check out Zhengding in Hebei province.

Or, if you%26#39;re going on the Jinshanling-Simatai portion of the Great Wall, that would be ';rural China'; for you as well.

Another consideration would be Chuandikou village, this might be closer than Zhengding.

Chend De in Hebei province about 4 hours by bus, many famous tepmles around there, another place for Xi`an.

Some of Ellyse%26#39;s suggestions may be your best bet. You also drive past some rural areas on the way to Simatai.

Rural China around Beijing is nothing like rural China in the southern part of the country, where there are picturesque villages set amid rice paddies.

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions. Now I think i need more than nine days!
