My first time to Asia. Will fly to Beijing, staying with a friend. I have a total of 13 days and would like to continue to Shanghai. Is it feasible to include Hong Kong ( I could arrange to fly home from there) or better to see somewhere between beijing and shanghai, (by train?)

It is doable for you to visit beijing, shanghai and hongkong in 13 days, maybe plus some close cities/towns to these big cities. You can visit:
Beijing - 4 days
shanghai -2 days, suzhou - 2 days, and hangzhou - 1 days
Hongkong -4 days.
or
Beijing - 4 days
xian - 2 days
shanghai/suzhou/hangzhou - 4 days
hongkong - 3 days

Well, what are you more interested in seeing/doing/experiencing on this trip? What%26#39;s your budget like? I presume you%26#39;ve no knowledge whatsoever of Chinese. When would you be travelling?
