august in hk

hi, i will be visiting hong kong in august with my teenage daughter (13) we are thinking of staying at the harbour plaza in hung hom, but are just slightly put of by some posts about it being a bit out of the way, especially with regards the airport. i belive hk is a pretty safe place, so is hung hom a safe /good area as we are not adverse to a bit of walking?also will there be any horse racing on at this time of year (as we are big fans, roll on the cheltenham festival) but i may have read somewhere children are not allowed in happy valley? any responses will be greatly welcome .

Harbour Plaza is a nice hotel, it located in residental area for the Hong Kong middle class. There are a lot of shops. It is absolutely safe. The only drawback is not located near MTR (metro).

Please note that there are two race courses in Hong Kong: happy valley and Shatin. Normally, horse racing held on Wednesday and Saturday/Sunday.

I have been race course only once in my life but you can check the website of Hong Kong Jockey Club for the details.

august in hk

There is no horse racing in Hong Kong in July and August. August is steamy hot, humid, and the peak of Typhoon season. Do you HAVE to visit in August?

looks like we will have to give the horse racing a miss as due to work and school august is the only time we have to visit. i have read the weather can be hot and humid but hk is somewhere we have always wanted to visit.(been to florida in august twice) thanks for the responses and it looks like its the harbour plaza as well. my daughter cant wait allready.

Hong Kong will be hosting the 2008 Olympics Equestrian, there may be equestrian event(s) for warming up during 2007 possibly during August.

We also stayed in HK last August at the Harbour Plaza Metropolis, near Hung Hom KCR station. The Harbour Plaza hotels have regular courtesy buses into Tsim Sha Tsui so you should have no problem with the location, I recall the last one back was around 11pm and they run every 20 minutes. Taxis are also relatively cheap.

This area is very safe.

Its hot %26amp; humid in August, so you might need to pace youself.

Hi azertyuiop.

You can book the limo through the hotel, just email them, I think it costs around 30UKP at the time of writing. I hope you enjoy it, and anything else you want to know, just ask.
